Some new tools are under development for enhancing degree-day models and other pest management needs, based on GRASSLinks, which is a full web-based interface to the GRASS GIS. Here, we make the web end-user the "GIS expert", and can add various analysis capabilities plus zooming, panning, and querying of maps. We have several ongoing developments that are aiding in shaping the new features and options in the GRASSLinks interface itself. We have several data layers for the 5-state Northwest as supported by the degree-day website. These layers include elevation, land use, STATSGO soils, EPA ecoregions, TIGER line data, climate maps, and degree day maps.
