Link to large image )118K) of grasshopper egg pod There are several different species of grasshopper that feed on mint, particularly the migratory grasshopper, twostriped grasshopper, and the redlegged grasshopper.  Most adults range in size from about 25 to 30 mm long.  Both adults and nymphs feed on mint leaves in July and August. Grasshopper overwinter as eggs in the soil.  Nymphs begin emerging in May and June and molt to adults in 40 to 60 days. Adults may disperse into mint from adjacent crops such as alfalfa, wheat, grasses, or rangeland.
