Spider and Lygus Bug Nymph Prey

2000. Ralph E. Berry, Department of Entomology, Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR.

Several species of spiders may be found in potato fields. Spiders are general predators that feed on small insects and other arthropods. The most important spiders in potato are the dwarf spiders, Erigone aletris, E. blaesa, and E. dentosa (Arachnida: Araneae). The dwarf spiders contribute to biological control of green peach aphid. Spiders also interact with other predators, such as the bigeyed bug and damsel bug, to provide biological control of green peach aphid.
