Hi Y'all, :)

Lessee...there's pickin' in the living room...pickin' on the back
deck :) ...the food is laid out and the grills are heating up for the
shishkabobs (beefalo), the carnivorous appetizer...there's salmon
linguini, 500,000 kinds of melons :) (which spent the nite on the floor
A/C vents since yesterday)...100,000 kinds of hot sauce ;) ...Sheri
Frushay created a masterpiece of art...the letters "TVZ" in slabs
of cream cheese, swimming in red and green hot sauce, surrounded
by crackers...carrot sticks, celery sticks, chips, jalapenos, tangy
cucumber/tomato/onion salad, potato salad...and there will be brisket,
*rabbit*, a *venison* roast, chicken, sausage, oh I'm getting hungry
just making this report...

The PA system is set up, the keg is here, there's 2 cases of wine
bottles chilling...10,000 kinds of soda and Gatorade, fresh sun tea...
wading pools for the kids (big and little)...the citronella candles
were strategically placed by Jeanene yesterday, for later...tiki
torches a-ready...gorgeous cut gladioli (flowers) everywhere...

People from Texas, Ohio, Massachusetts, Nashville (I'm sure I
missed some) but there's lots more peoples to come...

Anything could happen... :) I think we are gonna kick our heels
up (no, really?) :) ...

Love and *miss* everybody who can't be here,

Jeanean E.

Subject: Morning after Townesfest and BEfore Break*fest*

Hey... :)

Technically, it's the afternoon after Townesfest, but you know...

The music last nite was phenomenal...the back deck, with a PA
system and 2 of 3 working mics :) ...our own Sheri Frushay opened alone
(Dave wasn't ready , ha ha, just kiddin')...and
then Dave Waddell joined her...of course "Sittin' in the Right
Chair" (the prayer she wrote for Townes) was sung, the vibes were
just right for her to humbly ask if we minded (!) if she did
"Can't Even Sing the Blues" (the tribute she wrote for Stevie
Ray Vaughan)...and with a still-recovering throat (she said she
was singin' with one lung) she belted that number out proving
herself a liar (she *CAN* sing the blues, and while she's sick!!!)...

So, OK, next up was our own Wrecks (Rex) Bell, finger-pickin' with
Townes' fingerpicks, he started out with "In the Pink", did *my* request
:) , "Whiskey Maybe", "Rex's Blues" the song Townes wrote for *him*,
"Grandfather Clock" and ended with a new song of his "The Last Blues
Song" where the only line was "I didn't wake up this mornin'"... ...
next was our (Texas!) Alan Watson, doing his own tunes, "Must Be
Heaven", "If John Were Here" (his tribute to the Beatles), "Flyin'
Shoes" (Townes)...next was Jae Mason (Nashville) who has a beautiful
voice and plays pretty guitar...he seemed to tell the crowd to
sing with him ("here's your part", followed by a verse and chorus),
and the crowd complied (many are *not* singers) but it turns out
he was talking to Sheri Frushay, who sang harmony without a mic...
turns out Jeanene Van Zandt was wanting those two to get together
to sing...apparently Jae was duly impressed with Sheri's vocals
so we can only hope they will do some work together...and it really
was beautiful experiencing them together...then Susie Monek (on a
fine squeezebox) and Josie Kuhn were up, they did a few numbers
and Susie switched to mandolin and what a fine duo they were...

[Sheri is cooking breakfast for 10+ right now...bacon, eggs,
French toast, etc...we've had 4-5 pots of coffee so far...

Townesfest 1998

Townesfest is over and the 25 bags of garbage hauled away
The dogs are all sleeping by the smoke pit
I'm pretty sure they like the smell of it
Things are getting back to normal
Even though I might bust out laughing at any given moment
Looking back on the pictures in my mind
And wondering about the ones I can't remember
Two guys from Ohio named Kevin and Mike stayed after to build me a
sidewalk just cause they love Townes so much.
It's a Fine sidewalk, you'll see it next year I'm sure.
All you guys were so fun to meet along with the batch from last time
And with all my might and if it's the last thing I do
I will get to meet each and every one of you.
Looking forward to Townesfest 1999!
See ya'll Around Townes. Jeanene Van Zandt
