      Winter's here
      The ghost is near
      New Year's Day...

      Springtime came with tears in my eyes
      Your trip to my hometown was denied
      The show went on we listened anyway
      Everyone who knew you came to play

      We sang the songs
      We carried on
      New Year's Day...

      Into the heat of Summer I did ride
      Keeping my old dreadnaught by my side
      In Centerpoint we brought them to their knees
      The devil, he was hiding in the trees

      Passed him around
      A toast went down
      New Year's Day...

      The trees had painted fall a golden brown
      The angels, they still followed you around
      I didn't think I'd make it through the rain
      The melodies, they seemed to ease the pain

      We had to know
      Where did you go
      New Year's Day...

      Why did you have to go and leave too soon
      The flowers they're still blooming in your room
      You always said you'd leave on your own time
